Tire Gauges

During the 2008 Presidential Election, Barack Obama suggested that if all Americans inflated their tires properly and took their cars for regular tune-ups, they could save as much oil as new offshore drilling would produce. Contending that Obama's assertion was ludicrous, the Republican National Convention responded by sending tire gauges labeled "Barack Obama's Energy Plan" to Washington reporters.

The Bush Administration estmiated that expanded offshore drilling could increase oil production by 200,000 barrels per day by 2030. Americans consume approximately 20 million barrels per day, so that would meet about 1% of our demand two decades from now. However, efficiency experts suggest that keeping tires inflated can improve gas mileage by 3% and that regular maintenance can add another 4%, proving Obama's assertions to be valid. Many drivers already follow their advice, but if everyone did, we could immediately reduce demand several percentage points. (via Time Magazine's "The Tire Gauge Solution: No Joke").

You can give away custom imprinted tire gauges to help people ensure that their tires are sufficiently inflated and to help recipients maximize their gas mileage ratio. It's a relatively inexpensive item that not only shows that you are an eco-friendly company, but that you are a practical and thoughtful organization.
