Easy Delicious Meals-A Review & Giveaway

I am a SAHM of three young kiddos. 2 of them play sports & are in school and one is a busy little baby. I'm always on the lookout for new tasty meal ideas. What about you? You may be familiar with the name Lawry's.
I personally have seen their spices, marinades, and seasoning mixes at almost every grocery store I have been to. I honestly am not sure that I have ever used any of their products, until now! Lawry's sent me a Complete Meal Ideas Pack....one for me to review...and one to giveaway!!!
The Complete Meal Ideas Pack includes the following:

A Large Marinating Dish and 4 seasoning mixes including Asian Style Beef & Broccoli, Chimichurri Burrito Casserole, Mediterranean Sundried Tomato & Garlic Chicken, & Tuscan Style Marsala w/ Garlic & Basil.

What I like about Lawry's Complete Meal Idea Pack:
1. The marinating dish is fabulous! Extra large with a lid that snaps on. Great for transporting food to a party, or storing or marinating food in the frig.
2. The Seasoning Mixes were great & offered a wide variety. I have never used them before & am quite impressed!
3. I love the Seasoning Mixes! The one I tried last night was the Chimichurri Burrito Cassserole Mix. I have a picky family so I only put the beans on my part. My whole family liked it! Now that is rare in this house! ~wink~
4. On the packet it tells you exactly what you will need and instructions on how to make it. No scrambling around and measuring a bunch of different spices. It's all ready to go in one packet!
5. Lawrys' Seasoning Mixes are made w/ natural spices; contain 0 TransFat per serving, and no MSG.
6. Made dinner prep easy & quick!

What I didn't like:
1. The Chimichurri Burrito Casserole Mix was a tad spicy, but you could always use a little less of it. That's really the only negative thing I can think of!

Want It? Look for all varieties in the spice & seasoning section of supermarkets nationwide w/ an average price around $1.09. Click here to visit Lawrys.com.

Win It!

How to enter to win the Complete Meal Idea Pack mentioned above:

10 Tips for Planning a Spectacular Bridal Shower

A bridal shower is a time for the bride-to-be to relax and surround herself with good friends and family. I love to plan and organize parties & showers, especially when it is in honor of someone else! ~wink~ Here are some tips for planning a spectacular Bridal Shower:

1. Choose a theme. Think of things the bride loves, colors for the wedding, etc.
2. Favors There are many ideas out there for cost-effective favors you can make yourself. No time for that? There are also plenty of retail as well as online places to get ready-made favors. Even a simple box of candy will do.
3. Games are optional. You can find lots of ideas online by googling "Bridal Shower Games". Games that can serve as ice breakers for the party are a particularly good idea if a large number of the guests don't already know one another.
4. Invitations! A great place to check out for Bridal Shower Invites is Purple Trail. They have tons of gorgeous & fun designs to choose from. Sometimes I go to a site and can't find exactly what I'm looking for. At Purple Trail you can personalize cards and invitations using the PurpleTrail design center to make them look exactly how you want them to. How cool is that?? You can even download the designs to print at home or print from Purple Trail.

Psstt....For a limited time you can get free shipping on all Bridal Shower invites using the code "freeship" on orders of $50 or more @ Purple Trail!

5. Decorating for the Shower.Oohhh....the fun part! The possibilities are endless! Of course, this goes back to your theme and you can go all out or keep it simple. Either way, have fun w/ it!
6. Choosing a Time. One of my fave shower times is 10 or 10:30am. Brunch foods are so yummy & it is something different! Of course there are afternoon showers that are traditionally for the ladies, evening "girls night out" type showers, and couple showers.
7. Menu. Ahhh, the food. My favorite part. What you will serve will depend on the time of day your shower is. Morning? Brunch foods...mini muffins, quiche, fruit, etc. would be great. Afternoon? Tea sandwiches, fruit, cake, punch are a few ideas. Evening? Cocktails and appetizers or even a dinner if it's for a small group would be great.
8. Etiquette- The event is usually held within two months of the wedding, up to two weeks before the big day. Don't invite guests to the shower who have not been invited to the wedding. Send out invitations at least 2 weeks before the event.
9. Location Decide whether the shower will be held at a home, a restaurant, or other locale.
10. Thank You Notes Here is a tip I did at a baby shower I hosted that you could do for a bridal shower as well. Get some pretty little thank you notes for the bride. Pass them around and let each guest write their name & address on an envelope so she wouldn't be scrambling for addresses to send thank you notes to.

Hope these tips have helped. Enjoy!! :)

Discount Eye Wear

I still remember when I was a little girl the first time my vision started going bad. We were on a road trip & I was playing a letter game w/ Mom. I couldn't see any of the signs, they were quite fuzzy. A trip to the eye doctor, & I was in a pair of eyeglasses before I knew it. I started with hideous blue & pink ones, and was so excited when in the 5th grade I got Red Sally Jessy Rapheal ones! LOL.....

I wore nothing but prescription glasses until I was around 20 years old. I had tried contacts several times, and finally was able to wear them...yay! What a difference!

I now have 2 pairs of glasses that I wear at night & I wear contacts during the day. I have had many problems getting eye doctors to just give me my prescription so I can just get them at a discount place online. How ridiculous is that? Of course, I have astigmatism & dry eyes, so I have ended up wearing just about the most expensive ones on the market! Ugh!

If you are looking for glasses online a great place to check out is Glasses USA. You can shop by brand, material, gender, and the list goes on! Gift Closet readers can get 10% off your next purchase at Glasses USA! Simply use the code mommy10 when prompted during your next purchase of prescription glasses!

You can also find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/GlassesUSA. :)

Links brought to you by Glasses USA, however all content & opinions are 100% my own.

Win It Wednesday - Wrap-N-Mat

I'm really excited to share with you a company today that makes a product I have been using for several years now. Wrap-N-Mat makes eco-friendly and smart washable sandwich mats and snack pouches. I love these for several reasons. They can be used as a place mat where ever you go. They have a plastic liner that cleans up completely without any fabric weave or pores that can harvest bacteria. And best of all, no more buying tons of plastic bags and just tossing them! I use these in my husband and kid's lunches and they work great!

Bonnie Stromme is the Mom-prenuer behind this great idea and here is her inspiration for Wrap-N-Mat:
"What inspired me to start my business was my children and their numerous
packed lunches. Back in 1999, I was a stay at home mom with 4 small children
under the age of 6. Living so close to the Rocky Mountains, hikes were
common for our family. One Saturday when I had 6 sandwiches to pack and
only 3 plastic baggies left in the drawer, necessity became invention. A
paper towel and masking tape served its purpose for that Saturday but the
following Monday I was designing, cutting and sewing a re-usable wrap that
we could use instead of plastic bags. While the kids were at school or
napping, I sewed hundreds of the Wraps and soon realized I needed help. We
found a manufacturer in Denver, Colorado and started producing the Wraps.
We scrimped and saved to patent the WRAP-N-MAT Wraps and now some 11 years
later, we are still manufacturing in the USA, now in Kansas as well as in
China. Our newest item, the WRAP-N-MAT Pouch was suggested by our customers
who demanded a pouch for their snack foods that could open flat to clean,
without needing to be inverted. Also lined with the same food-safe lining,
the Pouches are a great companion to our Wraps and keep food fresh for
hours. Back in 1999 we were the innovators on how to pack a plastic bag
free lunch and we are very blessed to have great customers who enjoy our
products for years and years. Today, two of our four kids are now are in
college studying business. Whether or not they follow the family business is
their choice, but they have definitely learned a lot since being toddlers,
especially the value of the planet and the ease to re-use rather than toss."

Want It? Click here to shop.

Friday's Feature-100 Days of Real Food

I love food. I just told my hubby last night, "When I grow up I want to do something in the food industry". Course, I'm "grown up", but this season of my life is dedicated to raising 3 blessings from God & taking care of my man.

I have to vent for a moment regarding food. I made a comment on my Facebook page yesterday that sparked a lot of emotion for people. If schools are so big into trying to promote healthier eating and lunches, then why are they also so busy trying to get our kids to buy ice cream all the time to raise money for the school?? And then turning around and telling my child they cant have an occasional piece of candy in their lunch?? That makes no sense at all. Money should not be the motivation for everything folks!! How about selling something healthy? What a double standard!

Alright, now that I'm done venting, I'd like to share a site w/ you that is all about healthy eating. It's called 100 Days of Real Food. A Mom started this blog to see if she could go 100 days w/ no processed food for her family. I gotta tell ya, I love this idea. But I have some of the pickiest eaters in my house. From my husband down to my kids. ~Sigh~ And trust me when I tell you I have tried EVERYTHING to get them to eat right, I mean everything. For 6 months I made my daughter go to bed w/o dinner if she didn't eat what we ate. I've tried hiding the veggies in other foods, which sometimes works. I've tried making cute things w/ the food. I've tried letting them help me cook it. But enough about my issues, let's talk about eating healthy! :)

I like that on this blog she also tries to do it on a budget. Being a single income family that really helps. So many people say it's too expensive to eat healthy! Wrong! My hubby was so excited last night cuz our whole family ate at Wendy's for $6 cuz kid's meals were 99 cents each. I told him, "You can't eat like this all the time! It's not healthy, I don't care how cheap it is." And you know what? After I eat nasty food like that, I just feel gross! Am I the only one that feels like that sometimes?

Just look at all this healthy food! Makes me want to go to a market right now!
Sautéed flounder, baked sweet potato, applesauce, and whole wheat biscuit....mmmmmm....

So what are you waiting for? Hop on over to 100 Days of Real Food now and tell her I sent ya!

If you're a man or woman of fewer words - say 140 characters - follow The Gift Closet on Twitter by clicking here. Tweet ya later! ~wink~

Thoughts for Thursday - Saying Good Bye

Saying Good Bye

by guest blogger Emily Farmer

I can’t believe I have been writing for The Gift Closet for a little over a year now. God has used many life experiences along the way to show me many things. Some good and some not so good. I am truly thankful for them all. At this present time I feel I have been led to take a break from writing devotions. As a stay at home mom of 3 active boys ,school volunteer and church volunteer you can only imagine how full my plate is. I am feeling a little stressed right now. I have been reevaluating all the things I’m involved in for the past few months. And slowly I am stepping back from a few things. I will say I am only stepping back if I feel its what God wants me to do. You might ask well how do you know that's what you are suppose to do. I’m glad you ask. This is strictly me but, the way I know when it’s something that God wants me to do I have a peace about that decision. There is a verse that I stand on in times like these. That verse is
Ps. 128:1 “Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in his ways.” This verse tells us a few things. One to respect/revere the Lord which means to fear and two, walk in his ways. When facing a difficult decision ask yourself these questions: What respects God the most? What reflects his ways? And there your answer will be. I have used this verse time and time again to make difficult decisions. I hope you can take this verse and use it as I have.

I will miss spending time with you each week and sharing my life experiences. I hope that through one of my devotions you have read God has showed you something you did not know before. May God bless each and every one of you who are faithful to The Gift Closet.

Grace and Peace,
Emily Farmer

We will miss your writings Emily & I appreciate all you have done for The Gift Closet. You truly have been a blessing!! {{Hugs}}

Tuesday's Tip - Easy Decorating for your Halloween Party

13 days till Halloween. How are you celebrating this year? We will be eating & trick-or-treating at a friends' house & look forward to it each year! This is one of my fave times of the year! I love looking at all the party ideas out there & wish I was crafty enough to do some of these. Check them out.

How fabulous is this idea that I found over at Pop Art Minis. Reminds me of something I love to do each year. I buy the tiny mini pumpkins, cut out a whole big enough for a tea light candle, place a tea light candle in it and light. Make sure the top of the candle is even w/ the top of the pumpkin. It is adorable!!!

I found lots of idea for things to do with candy corn over at Hostess with the Mostess. I LOVE the candy corn in the hurricane vases w/ the candles!!
Found this great FREE printable over at Craftily Ever After. Simply print it out, stick it in a frame, and voila! Cheap and easy decor! LOVE it!!! How do you celebrate Halloween?

Enough Said

Weary

My sweet friend Emily is taking a break from writing Thoughts for Thursday today. So, you gotta put up with another day of my writings. ~wink~

I originally started the Thoughts for Thursday postings for just any random thoughts I had. As I sit here and prepare to write my thoughts for today, only one word comes to my mind. Weary.

As a Mom we put so much into our kids, don't we? And when something is wrong with them, especially a baby that can't communicate it's even harder. And all we want to do is fix it. As I write this my husband is trying to get my 10 month old to take a bottle of Nutramigen formula. Up until now he has been strictly breastfed. He is really fighting it. Why are trying to get him to take it? Because he has had diarrhea for 17 days straight. You heard me. Seventeen Days. The GI Dr has given us some dietary changes to make and we are in the process of giving this a try. We've had a lot of other things going on the past few weeks that have really worn us down physically and emotionally, including a death in the family. I keep thinking of Moms out there who deal w/ Special Needs children on a daily basis and all I have to say is God Bless You! I think it takes a very special person to deal w/ special needs/sick kiddos on a daily basis and I have much respect for them.

One of my new favorite songs is "Your Hands" by JJ Heller. I was riding in the car this morning after another sleepless night up taking care of sick kids. I was listening to the radio and told God I really needed to hear a good song to lift my spirits. And this song came on, bringing tears to my eyes. The song that came on after that was again about, how God never leaves us. I am thankful I serve a God who is alive and NEVER leaves me. :)

Here are the lyrics:

I have unanswered prayers
I have trouble I wish wasn't there
And I have asked a thousand ways
That You would take my pain away
That You would take my pain away

I am trying to understand
How to walk this weary land
Make straight the paths that crookedly lie
Oh Lord, before these feet of mine
Oh Lord, before these feet of mine

When my world is shaking
Heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave Your hands

When You walked upon the Earth
You healed the broken, lost, and hurt
I know You hate to see me cry
One day You will set all things right
Yea, one day You will set all things right

When my world is shaking
Heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave Your hands

Your hands
Your hands that shape the world
Are holding me, they hold me still
Your hands that shape the world
Are holding me, they hold me still

When my world is shaking
Heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave You when...

When my world is shaking
Heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave...
I never leave Your hands .

Eco-Friendly Products for the Home

The winner of the planner from Chaos...Simplified is #5Valancia. Congrats!

I'm all about saving money and being green at the same time. How about you? I received these SKOY reusable cloths from Get N Green that do just that.

What is Get N Green?
Get N Green is a great site to find eco-friendly products such as BPA Free Baby Bottles, Wrap-N-Mats (which I love for my kid's lunches), Klean Kanteen Bottles, and so much more!

What is SKOY?
SKOY is The SKOY cloth is a fabulous, absorbent, biodegradable and natural multi-use cloth. SKOY cloth can be used in place of your sponge, wash cloth or paper towels.

It is a European made product and 100% biodegradable because it is made from a natural cotton and wood-based cellulose pulp. SKOY cloth is a chlorine-free product using water-based colors and inks. After an independent composting test, SKOY cloth broke down completely within 5 weeks.

The SKOY cloth is a durable product due to the re-usability factor and can last months. Using a SKOY cloth is equivalent to using 15 rolls of paper towels in an average home. With the high cost of paper towels, at least $2 a roll, SKOY cloth is the obvious choice for your wallet and the environment.

The SKOY cloth has an absorption factor of 15x its own weight. As a result, producing the most superior cloth product available. Imagine using 15 sheets of good-quality paper towels at once… This is how a wet SKOY cloth will feel in your hand.

The SKOY cloth is long-lasting because of the wash ability feature. It dries quickly, so it is not a breeding ground for bacteria. Have you ever used your sponge, then smelled your hand and it reeked of horrible bacteria? That will never happen again if you microwave your SKOY cloth. It is also dishwasher and washer/dryer safe. Cleaning your SKOY cloth will keep it healthy and germ-free.

Each SKOY is approximately 7”x 7” and the Large SKOY is 12”x 10”.

They come four to a package - mixed color variety, mixed color with inspirational text, all white or the very popular green GetN'Green logo on white.

What I like about SKOY:
1. I love that they are bio-degradable and completely break down in 5 weeks. Makes me feel good to know I am using something that is good for the environment, while doing every day chores.
2. They are cute & fun! The pack I received was multi-colored w/ flowers on them. They have a variety of colors and designs to choose from.
3. I used mine as a dishcloth in the kitchen. It is a heavy material and works great.
4. It really is super absorbent & is only $6.95 for a 4 pack. Truly will save you money in the long run.
5. I love that you can wash it & re-use it as well.

What I didn't like about SKOY:
1. Nothing! A truly great product & site.

Want It? Click here to visit Get N Green.

GiftZip.com Giveaway

The Holidays are approaching. 10 weeks 5 days till Christmas, but who's counting? ~wink~
I made my list the other day & took stock of my Gift Closet. If I see a good deal during the year on something I know someone on my list would love, I snatch it up, and stick it in my Gift Closet. Saves me time and money in the long run. I love a one-stop shopping kind of site. I also am a fan of Gift Cards. What's not to love about a gift card? Some will say it's impersonal. But hey! I'd much rather get a gift card to a store I like than a hideous piece of jewelry or clothing I'll never wear. I know, I know. It's the thought that counts. But if you're going to get someone a gift, why not get something you know they will use?

All that rambling to say, I would like to let you know about a site I have discovered called GiftZip.com. It will make your shopping this year quick, easy, and you will never have to get out of your pj's or leave the house!

GiftZip.com serves as a portal to the web's eGift cards, promoting greener gift giving and seeking to save shoppers precious resources. GiftZip.com just launched their Greener Gift Giving movement in response to the 75 million lbs of PVC dumped into landfills each year due to plastic gift card waste. You literally could handle all your shopping through one site!! Retailers include Sephora, Amazon, Ugg Australia, Home Depot, Kohl's, Bloomindale's, Walmart, Kmart, Meijer, and....

GiftZip.com is simple, fast, and completely free. It's the perfect way to send a last minute gift or as a more efficient way of giving all of your eGift cards. There are no catches or hidden fees. They don't collect data or require you to register. The best part? You will never lose a gift card again. Save the eGift cards in your inbox.

How to:

1. Browse the various categories, locate a retailer of interest and click on that retailer's logo.

2. A box will appear providing a brief description of the product or services that the retailer offers, as well as information regarding denominations available and locations where the eGift card is redeemable.

3. Click GiftZip it! And you will be automatically directed to the retailer's secure eGift card page.

4. From there, follow the instructions on the retailer's website to complete your order.

5. Your eGift card will be sent by email and arrive in your recipient's inbox. You also can have the eGift card sent to yourself to print.
