"I've been sewing for myself and others for over 10 years. I love creating things, but never felt like I had an original idea that I could call my own. As a high school nutrition teacher, I'm constantly helping 25-30 students in 5 different kitchens at one time. I would throw a towel over my shoulder to have it nearby, but would constantly forget about the towel and wipe my hands on the bottom of my apron. And an idea was born! I made the first one during my lunch break and got a ton of positive feedback from family and friends. Since my students call me "Mrs. Stag," Stag Designs was born. Tuesday's Tip- Stretch Your Dollar During the Holidays
With our current economy I feel like everyone is trying to save a buck. We manage to live very frugally on a single family income. And this week is no different with both of my boys having birthdays, us hosting Thanksgiving, birthday parties, and xmas shopping!
Here are a few tips to stretch your dollar this Holiday season:
1. Coupons! Need I say more? I have been getting lots of flyers in the mail w/ tons of coupons from Target, Babies R Us, etc. A lot of times you can ask for coupons at the register or the store will have flyers posted somewhere w/ valuable coupons and current sales.
2. Have a plan when you leave the house. If you plan to shop on Friday, check out sales the night before, the best deals, etc. Know where you are headed and who has the best deals/coupons. Here is a site to check out for in-stock listings from 50,000 brick-and mortar retailers to find the best bargains in your area. Make It Monday - Kids Thanksgiving Craft
I am so excited about all this week has in store for our family! My Mom arrives from Texas tonight to spend the week w/ us. ~Hi Mom!~ Both of my sons will be celebrating birthdays this week, I'll be hosting the big Turkey Day and Mom is teaching me how to make her famous turkey & dressing, shopping on Friday, and the list goes on! And did I mention the kids are out of school, so we get to sleep in...yay!!!
Since Friday was the kids last day of school before a week off, their classes had Thanksgiving feasts. It is my 1st year being a Room Mom for my daughter's class. I put together this fun little craft that the kids seemed to enjoy. This would be fun to do w/ your kids at home this week, or if you are hosting Thanksgiving you could let the kids do this craft before or after dinner.
Preparation:
I bought yellow/orange cups at the dollar store. Cut out multi colored "feathers" from construction paper, purchased some cellophane treat bags, candy corn, & yellow ribbon. Candy Corn is half off at most stores and the Dollar Store right now. I also printed out on a piece of brown construction paper, "Happy Thanksgiving Little Turkey" to tie onto the bag of candy corn.
First, I had them decorate their cups w/ Turkey faces, feathers on the sides, etc. w/ a marker. Then they wrote on the feathers things they were thankful for. Next, I helped them tape the feathers onto the back of the cup. After everyone was done, I placed a bag of candy corn in each cup that I had tied the "Happy Thanksgiving Little Turkey" note onto. They loved it! It got them thinking of things they were thankful for, while doing a little craft at the same time. Enjoy!

Thoughts for Thursday - Being Thankful
I am thankful for....
My family
My sweet babies. I know God loans us these precious angels for a short time and I am so thankful he chose me to be their Mom! I was in love the moment I saw the little blue line...every time!!!
My relationship w/ God. I am thankful I serve a God who loves us, gave His only Son for us, desires a relationship with us and cares about every detail of our lives.
The glorious splendor of God displayed this time of year through the beautiful Fall Foliage.
Being able to see this glorious display just driving down the road every day also makes me thankful for the things we so often take for granted every day.
Eyes to see such beauty.
Ears to hear my kid's first words and their laughter.
A roof over my head.
Wonderful food to taste.
Nice things to smell.
Oh how blessed we are!
As we prepare for the busy Holiday season ahead, busying ourselves w/ grocery lists, Holiday parties, shopping lists.....let's not forget to take a moment and breathe. Take it all in. Be thankful and embrace God's blessings this year. That is His way of saying, "I Love You". Let's remember to say, "I love you too Lord." :)

Photography Session Giveaway
This past weekend a friend of mine came and took our family pics for Christmas cards. She did an absolutely amazing job. She posted some of the photos on my Facebook page yesterday and I have gotten phone calls and so many comments about what a wonderful job she did. And that is why I am thrilled to announce that she is giving away a complimentary session to one lucky Gift Closet reader in the South Metro Atlanta area!!!
Odalys Mendez specializes in modern wedding, baby, family and seniors photography in the Metro Atlanta area. She came to our home, but is willing to go on location just about anywhere, and will travel out of state for weddings. She is easy to get along with, made us all feel comfortable, the kids had a blast with her, and she had really creative ideas. Here are some of the gorgeous photos she took of my children in our backyard and neighborhood:

"I took some photography courses in college and although I loved it, I opted to pursue a more “practical” career, but I have always yearned to do something creative. Having children and seeing them grow certainly flipped my world upside down. Through the years I took them to studios and I although I had all these photos of them in beautiful dresses, posing perfectly, their personalities were missing from these images. I knew I wanted more. I wanted to capture my family’s memories in images that told our story, document their wit, innocence, quirks, and silly expressions in print. I want to do the same for my clients, striving to document their love and connections for them to cherish year after year.
How it works:
After a session she usually posts a sneak peek within 48 hours on her blog, and you will have access to a password-protected online gallery of 30-35 images within a week. At that time she usually meets with my clients for a personalized ordering appointment where you can go over the images. She is very involved in helping out with their choices and even working around the design and décor of your home if you wish. Products are delivered from four to six weeks after the appointment.

The Rare Orchid Giveaway

"I've always been into crafting since I was young because my mother is a big crafter and was also an art teacher, and I was initially inspired to start my businesses out of necessity to make ends meet when I was working as a social worker after college. I would make all sorts of things and sell them at local Hawaii craft fairs on the weekend, and pretty soon crafting was better money then social work and I took the leap to pursue my business full time. I really had no background in business (never took an accounting or business class ever!) so I've been learning as I go and it's been a rewarding challenge to bootstrap my way through building my company. As the business has grown over the past 3 years I have shifted to focusing more on product design instead of handcrafting since the quantities of product I needed to produce became much larger after I started to wholesale to stores, and that has allowed me to develop higher quality product and expand a lot. I still hand make some items while others are made with a small family owned factory in a rural agricultural town outside of Shanghai I connected with in China by chance; and as the business continues to grow my main focus is still producing product that is functional, high quality, and affordable (and cute)!"

"I've always been into crafting since I was young because my mother is a big crafter and was also an art teacher, and I was initially inspired to start my businesses out of necessity to make ends meet when I was working as a social worker after college. I would make all sorts of things and sell them at local Hawaii craft fairs on the weekend, and pretty soon crafting was better money then social work and I took the leap to pursue my business full time. I really had no background in business (never took an accounting or business class ever!) so I've been learning as I go and it's been a rewarding challenge to bootstrap my way through building my company. As the business has grown over the past 3 years I have shifted to focusing more on product design instead of handcrafting since the quantities of product I needed to produce became much larger after I started to wholesale to stores, and that has allowed me to develop higher quality product and expand a lot. I still hand make some items while others are made with a small family owned factory in a rural agricultural town outside of Shanghai I connected with in China by chance; and as the business continues to grow my main focus is still producing product that is functional, high quality, and affordable (and cute)!"

Norah Jones CD Review
Norah Jones is coming out w/ a new CD just in time for the Holidays! This particular one, called "Featuring", is unique in that it is a collection of the multi-platinum selling, multi-Grammy Award winning singer’s musical collaborations from the past decade.
The 18 songs on the album include cameos, collaborations, and duets w/ legends such as Ray Charles (love that one!), Willie Nelson, and Dolly Parton, and more current performers such as Outkast & the Foo Fighters. I really like the wide array of artists on this album. It is a very bluesy/jazzy album w/ a little something for everyone!
The tracks on "Featuring" span Norah's entire career and show her her musical versatility, from jazz to country to hip-hop, to rock.The album will be released November 16.

2. Easy to hang in your laundry room with an attached strap.
3. Save time and money but still with hand-washing result.
4. Unique vent-holes design creates a greater oxygen level resulting in bringing more air bubbles which helps to dissolve the detergent better and reduce detergent consumption.
5. Also comes w/ a bag for you to put panties in to toss in the washer as well.
6. They offer it in both small and large sizes, according to your bra size. Genius!
7. Available in pink, blue, or purple.
What I didn't like about it:
1. It only holds 1 bra at a time. That's my only complaint, but I still would recommend this product. :)
