"I've always been into crafting since I was young because my mother is a big crafter and was also an art teacher, and I was initially inspired to start my businesses out of necessity to make ends meet when I was working as a social worker after college. I would make all sorts of things and sell them at local Hawaii craft fairs on the weekend, and pretty soon crafting was better money then social work and I took the leap to pursue my business full time. I really had no background in business (never took an accounting or business class ever!) so I've been learning as I go and it's been a rewarding challenge to bootstrap my way through building my company. As the business has grown over the past 3 years I have shifted to focusing more on product design instead of handcrafting since the quantities of product I needed to produce became much larger after I started to wholesale to stores, and that has allowed me to develop higher quality product and expand a lot. I still hand make some items while others are made with a small family owned factory in a rural agricultural town outside of Shanghai I connected with in China by chance; and as the business continues to grow my main focus is still producing product that is functional, high quality, and affordable (and cute)!"
