Is It Really The Thought That Counts?

When it comes to corporate gift-giving, lots of people want to know if they have to pick the most valuable items available, or if it's really "the thought that counts." Like all good strategies, the answer to this dilemma is somewhere in between the two extremes.

On the high end of the gift spectrum there are luxury items like leg and foot massagers, and on the other end are inexpensive promotions like pens and notepads. Each of these categories has its pros and cons, and not all items are appropriate or practical to use as a corporate gift. Recipients might love receiving a $500 electronic massager, but your company probably won't enjoy receiving the bill. Affordable items may save some money, but employees don't want to receive a stress ball as a holiday gift no matter what the "thought" behind it is.

The trick is finding a corporate gift that translates your genuine appreciation into a gift that also has a high perceived value. If your employees can tell that you put time and effort into selecting a gift that fits their needs and personality, they're going to be grateful no matter what the price tag. This is why its important to have a "thought" behind your decision. Don't just pick a cool item or select something with a high perceived cash value. Express your appreciation first and foremost, but don't bore your recipients with dull and useless gifts.
